After warnings of a plot to assassinate her, the President of Costa Rica was evacuated following an explosion
Security forces evacuated in after hearing during a tour she was taking in an area witnessing illegal mining activities, according to television footage from the scene of the accident.
The footage showed security personnel quickly transferring the president to a car after the explosion occurred, the nature of which is not yet known.

Fernandez later confirmed to reporters that she was not injured, and described what happened as "It’s like a scene from the movies"
Video clips also showed the President and a number of lawmakers during a field tour in an area known for the spread of unlicensed gold mines, where she appeared lying on the ground following the explosion while guards surrounded her to secure her.
Plot to assassinate the President of Costa Rica
The incident comes weeks after the government announced, on June 3, that it had received information about a plot to assassinate the President that was planned inside a prison.
It was Fernandez, 39, assumed the presidency last May, succeeding her predecessor, after winning the election on the back of her pledge to combat crime.
