The Pakistani Interior Minister is in Tehran after the US-Iranian talks were postponed

The Minister of the Interior has arrived Postponing the talksbetween the two parties in Switzerland, according to what Iranian media reported.

The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) quoted Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei as saying that "The Pakistani Interior Minister will arrive in Iran this Saturday afternoon as part of Pakistan’s preparatory efforts for the Iranian-American negotiations"

Local media outlets, including Tasnim News Agency, later clarified that Naqvi had arrived in the city of Mashhad in northeastern Iran.

According to ISNA, the Pakistani Interior Minister is scheduled to meet with his Iranian counterpart, Iskander Momeni, as well as with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

This visit comes the day after the talks between Tehran and Washington that were scheduled to be held in Switzerland on Friday were postponed, following the signing of a memorandum. An understanding between the two countries to end the war in the Middle East.

Iran and the United States signed remotely on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding that was reached following Pakistani mediation to end the war that broke out as a result of the Israeli-American strikes on Tehran.

This understanding paves the way for a 60-day period of talks focusing on the Iranian nuclear program and lifting the sanctions imposed on Tehran, with the aim of reaching a final agreement.

Naqvi’s visit to Iran comes on the eve of a meeting. It will be held by Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt at the level of foreign ministers in Cairo on Sunday. These countries played, to varying degrees, roles in the mediation that led to the Iranian-American understanding.
