Hani accidentally scores for Australia against Egypt…and the 2026 World Cup enters history with a negative number
Mohamed Hani, the Egyptian national team defender, accidentally scored the equalizer for the Australian national team against his team in the ongoing match in the round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup. Hani tried to deflect a cross from a free kick carried out by the Australian national team through Ellen O’Neill in the 55th minute, directing the ball with a header into the net of his teammate Mustafa Schubert.
The number of own goals in the World Cup rose to 13, making the 2026 World Cup the most number of own goals in the history of the tournament.
Mohamed Hani previously scored a goal for Belgium in the first round of the group stage, and scored his second goal to become the first player to score two own goals.
Bulgaria national team player, Ivan Davidov, previously scored two own goals in the same edition of the World Cup, as he did so by mistake against his team against Hungary and Portugal.
The Egyptian national team took the lead in the first half with a goal scored by Emam Ashour in the 13th minute.
