The 5th session of the Mohammed bin Rashid International Water Award is witnessing wide international demand
Dubai, 5 July / WAM / Suqia UAE confirmed that the fifth session of the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award”, under the umbrella of the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives” Foundation, is witnessing an increasing interest from participants from various countries of the world, as the award continues to consolidate its position as a leading global platform to stimulate innovation in the water sector, by supporting sustainable, applicable and scalable solutions that rely on clean and renewable energy and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to address water scarcity in societies. On this occasion, the Foundation called on universities, research centers, companies, institutions and innovators around the world to take advantage of the remaining period before the deadline for submitting entries on September 30, 2026, stressing the importance of preparing integrated nomination files that include accurate technical information about the solutions presented, in a way that enhances the quality of the evaluation and the credibility of the results.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Suqia Foundation, said: “The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Water Award comes in implementation of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, in consolidating the position of the United Arab Emirates as a global center for innovation and creating sustainable solutions to humanitarian and development challenges. The award continues to consolidate its position as a leading international platform to motivate innovators, researchers, institutions and companies to develop solutions. Advanced water that contributes to providing clean and safe water, especially to the most needy communities, relying on clean energy and emerging technologies, most notably artificial intelligence.
He added that the fifth session is of particular importance in light of the global trend towards smart and digital solutions capable of creating a qualitative shift in the water sector, whether by improving operating efficiency, enhancing proactive monitoring, or developing more sustainable and scalable solutions.
For his part, Mohammed Abdul Karim Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of the UAE Suqia Foundation, stressed the importance of including in applications comprehensive technical information about operating conditions, technologies used, maintenance requirements, energy sources, water quality indicators and the number of beneficiaries, and attaching them to documented evidence and results, such as field photos, results of pilot projects, case studies, performance data, and video clips, as well as independent verification from the competent authorities when available, as this has a role in highlighting the actual impact of the solutions provided.
The fifth session pays special attention to solutions based on digital transformation and advanced technologies, including employing artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to enhance proactive monitoring and improve the operation and efficiency of water resources management.
The award encourages participants to highlight the role of emerging technologies in enhancing the effectiveness, scalability and long-term sustainability of their solutions.
Submission requirements include clarifying the mechanisms for integrating renewable energy into the proposed solutions, submitting an environmental assessment covering the various stages of the project, such as water production, desalination, purification, or management, in addition to highlighting the financial feasibility through a life cycle cost analysis, including operating costs, recovery periods, and rates of return, as well as a statement of the solution’s adaptability to local conditions and the potential for its expansion in the future.
It should be noted that the total value of the award is one million US dollars and includes four main categories: the “Innovative Projects Award” worth $540,000 for small and large projects, the “Innovation Award in Research and Development” worth $400,000, distributed equally between national and international institutions, the “Individual Innovations Award” worth $40,000, which includes the Distinguished Researcher and Youth categories, in addition to the “Innovative Crisis Solutions Award” worth $20,000.
