8 people were injured in a shooting accident in New York

Eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting incident last night in the Coney Island area of ​​Brooklyn in New York City, while the area was witnessing American Independence Day celebrations and fireworks.

The New York City Police Department announced that its officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the vicinity of West 31st Street and Surf Street, where they found eight people injured by gunshot wounds, who were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The ages of those injured range from 6 to 37 years old. They are a 6-year-old child who was injured in the abdomen, two children aged 7 and 12 years old, and a 14-year-old boy who was injured in his legs, in addition to a 21-year-old woman who was injured in the chest, a 25-year-old woman who was injured in her leg, and two men aged 33 and 37 years old who were injured in the chest and shoulder, respectively.

The police described the condition of the 21-year-old woman as critical, while the condition of the other seven injured people was described as stable.

It confirmed that a firearm was found at the scene of the accident, but it has not yet announced the arrest of any suspect, nor has it issued a description of the perpetrator or perpetrators, while investigations are still ongoing to determine the circumstances and motives of the incident.

The shooting occurred shortly after the fireworks display, which was scheduled to begin at 9:45 p.m., and it is not yet clear whether the shooting occurred while the display was in progress or immediately after it ended.

Local media reported that the accident occurred near the Marine Promenade and Open Air Theater on Coney Island, an area that was crowded with visitors on the occasion of the Fourth of July holiday.

This incident comes just days after a separate shooting crime took place in the Coney Island area, which resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man, an indication of the continuation of armed violence in the area despite the intense security deployment during Eid celebrations.
