Deschamps appears in the 25th World Cup match… equaling a record that has stood for 48 years

France’s national team coach, Didier Deschamps, equaled the record for the most coaches in charge of matches in the World Cup finals, after he reached his 25th match in the World Cup, equaling the achievement of German Helmut Schön, who has been standing since 1978.

Schön led the West Germany national team in 25 matches during the 1966, 1970, 1974 and 1978 editions, achieving 16 victories, five draws and four defeats, a number that remains a historical standard for World Cup coaches.

Deschamps reached the 25th match with the French national team in the World Cup finals, since he took over the job before the 2014 edition, after leading it in the 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026 editions. During these matches, he achieved 17 victories compared to four draws and four defeats, also becoming the coach with the most victories in the history of the tournament.

Deschamps, who won the World Cup as a player in 1998 and as a coach in 2018, continues to consolidate his position among the most prominent coaches in the history of the tournament, as he approaches the end of his career with the French national team after 14 years he spent at the head of the coaching staff, leaving an exceptional mark on the World Cup records.
