Out of service.. France stops a nuclear reactor due to the heat wave


The electricity company stopped temporarily a nuclear reactor due to high The water of the Garonne River as a result of the recent climatic conditions.

The company explained in a statement that Reactor No. 2 at the Gulfesh station, located about 90 kilometers from the city of Toulouse, was put out of service after a significant rise in the temperature of the river water, which is expected to reach 28 degrees Celsius.

It indicated thatduring recent days led to a noticeable increase in the temperature of the Garonne water, indicating that the station relies on river water for cooling operations, in accordance with the environmental rules regulating water temperatures.

She added that reactor No. 1 in the station had previously been stopped for maintenance work and the replacement of nuclear fuel.

The rules in force stipulate the possibility of reducing the production of nuclear stations or stopping some of their units temporarily when the temperature of the rivers used in cooling operations rises to specific levels.
