The UAE condemns in the strongest terms the aggressive Iranian attacks that targeted two national tankers in the Strait of Hormuz

Abu Dhabi, 14 July / WAM / The UAE expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the aggressive Iranian attacks that targeted the national oil tankers “Mombasa” and “Al Bahia”, after they were attacked by two cruise missiles while they were passing through the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani territorial waters.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, in a statement, that this aggressive Iranian attack resulted in the death of a person of Indian nationality, and the injury of 8, including 4 seriously injured, 6 of Indian nationality, and 2 of Ukrainian nationality, expressing its sincere condolences and sympathies to the family of the victim and to the Republic of India and its friendly people, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.

The Ministry stressed that this aggressive Iranian attack constitutes a flagrant violation of Security Council Resolution No. 2817, which stressed freedom of navigation and the refusal to target commercial ships or disrupt international sea lanes, stressing that targeting commercial navigation and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for pressure or economic blackmail is an act of piracy, and constitutes a direct threat to the stability of the region and its people, and to global energy security.

The UAE stressed the need for Iran to stop these aggressive attacks, ensuring its full commitment to stop all hostilities, and reopen the Strait completely and unconditionally, in order to achieve the security of the region and the stability of the global economy and trade.
