The International Olympic Committee receives a complaint about Infantino’s behavior at the World Cup

A complaint has been submitted to the International Olympic Committee accusing Swiss Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), of violating the rules of political neutrality in his dealings with US President Donald Trump.

The “Fair Square” human rights organization stated that Infantino, who joined the International Olympic Committee in 2020, repeatedly violated the Olympic Charter and the committee’s code of ethics, most recently in his dealings with the case of Folarin Balogun, the United States player.

The Disciplinary Committee of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) suspended the American striker’s one-match suspension, allowing him to participate in the World Cup round of 16 match against Belgium.

This came after a phone call from President Trump to Infantino, while the Swiss stressed the complete independence of FIFA committees.

The British newspaper (The Times) reported that the head of the Disciplinary Committee, Muhammad Al Kamali, took the decisive decision to suspend the suspension on his own, noting that he had never been the sole arbiter in any of the previously published disciplinary cases.

The British news agency (BA Media) reported that FIFA did not provide any explanation as to why the suspension was suspended.

FairSquare’s complaint alleges five clear violations of the IOC’s rules on political neutrality, as well as preliminary evidence of two other serious violations, including the handling of the Balogun case.

Last December, Fair Square filed a similar complaint with FIFA’s Ethics Committee.

The Norwegian Football Association wrote to FIFA’s Ethics Committee asking it to look into Fair Square’s complaint.

Last June 29, 50 members of the European Parliament wrote to the same committee asking it to look into Fair Square’s complaint.

FIFA and the International Olympic Committee have been contacted for comment
