Discussing the role of the female vision in Saudi film criticism at a symposium in Riyadh

The Saudi Criticism Laboratory, in partnership with the New Filmmakers Club, is organizing a critical symposium entitled “The Noon of Women and the Noon of Criticism in Saudi Cinema”, on Monday evening, July 20, in Riyadh, with the aim of highlighting the presence of the female vision in Filmmakers, which contributes to supporting the cinematic and cultural scene in the Kingdom.
The symposium discusses three main axes, including the women’s vision in critical writing, the critical essay and its impact on cinema, and the specificity of Saudi film criticism, by reviewing women’s experiences in criticism, analyzing their presence in the cultural scene, and discussing their contributions to developing the cinematic critical discourse.
Saudi Film Criticism
The symposium also aims to explore the women’s experience in criticism. Cinema, reading the female vision in analyzing the cinematic image, and enhancing dialogue between critics and filmmakers, in a way that enriches the discussion about the reality of film criticism in the Kingdom, and highlights the diversity of critical schools and the multiple angles of reading and analysis.
Maha Sultan, Asmaa Awad, and Samaher Al-Damen participate in the symposium, where they review their experiences in writing and film criticism, and discuss the most prominent challenges and opportunities facing Saudi film criticism, in addition to the impact of the critical article in reading cinematic works and directing cultural discussion. Developing the cinematic industry
The symposium seeks to highlight the importance of film criticism as a partner in developing the film industry, by providing objective readings of artistic works, promoting a culture of dialogue, and encouraging research and critical studies, in keeping with the growing movement witnessed by Saudi cinema, and enhancing its presence at the local and international levels.
The symposium is scheduled to be held at eight o’clock in the evening, and will continue until nine thirty in the evening, in the presence of those interested.
