المملكة: "United Nations" Expresses its deep concern about the threats made by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia
Secretary-General of the United Nations Stephane Dujarric expressed the organization’s deep concern over the new threats launched by The Houthi terrorist militia against The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and freedom of navigation in vital shipping lanes in the Red Sea, warning of the risk of a broader regional escalation.
He stated that the United Nations is also deeply concerned about the return of hostilities and renewed escalation in large parts of the region, stressing that immediate reduction of escalation is necessary.
He said: "All parties must respect their obligations under international humanitarian law"reiterating the call on the United Nations to urge all parties to address their differences through dialogue and diplomacy"
Navigation in the Red Sea
Dujarric added "Any disruption to navigation in the Red Sea will affect the flow of United Nations shipments, especially humanitarian materials and supplies for peacekeeping operations."warning that the broader impact will be on global trade, energy trade, and the movement of trade in general.
He pointed out that these developments come at a time when the world is already witnessing the impact of the almost complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the resulting repercussions on the global economy.
