"Liwa for wet" It concludes its activities by presenting 8 tons of local production in 23 competitions
Al Dhafra, July 24 / WAM / The activities of the 22nd edition of the Liwa Dates Festival concluded yesterday, which was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Presidential Court, and organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, from July 14 to 23, in the city of Liwa in the Al Dhafra region.
The festival witnessed the participation of more than 465 farmers who competed in its 23 competitions, for which 295 prizes worth more than 8 million dirhams were allocated, while its various activities attracted about 80,000 visitors.
His Excellency Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the Authority, confirmed that Liwa Dates, which is held annually coinciding with the date season in the UAE, contributes in each session to highlighting the status of the palm tree and its fruits, as one of the components of the national identity, in addition to its role in sustaining the heritage and agricultural sectors, enhancing awareness of the importance of agriculture in the country, supporting the owners of farms that produce palm trees, fruits and local agricultural products, and consolidating The food security system, and highlighting the efforts of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to raise awareness of modern agriculture.
The festival included 11 date competitions, for the categories of “Dabbas, Khalas, Fard, Al-Khunaizi, Bu Maan, Al-Shishi, Al-Zamili, Akbar Adaj, Kharayef Al-Bayt, Liwa Dates Elite, and Al-Dhafra Dates Elite,” in addition to 7 fruit competitions for the categories of “Local and Assorted Lemons, Local and Assorted Mangoes, Red Figs, Yellow Figs, and Al-Dar Fruit Basket,” and 3 competitions. For the model farm for the categories of “Western and Eastern Liwa Districts, and Al Dhafra Cities Farms,” in addition to a competition for the most beautiful wet myth, and a creativity competition from the palm trunk.
The farmers participating in the competitions provided about 8 tons of dates and fruits, all produced by UAE farms for the 2026 season.
The festival’s activities included pavilions of sponsors, supporters, government and private entities, which presented dozens of lectures, workshops and seminars, in addition to various programs through the festival theater and across the pavilions, which reviewed the most prominent services and innovations in the field of agriculture in general, and palm cultivation in particular.
The wet market consisted of 97 stores selling dates, palm seedlings, and agricultural products, and 68 stores in the heritage market, where the markets provided platforms to support the local community, productive families, producers, farmers, and owners of pioneering projects, while folk arts teams presented distinguished performances over a period of 10 days, and the theater witnessed various activities for farmers, exhibitors, and visitors. The handicrafts pavilion presented 14 corners, displaying heritage paintings of traditional and modern products made from palm components, in addition to the children’s village and many… Various events.
