With the Kingdom’s support, the launch of the Islamic Coalition to Fight Terrorism in the Sahel Countries

The Islamic Military Coalition to Combat Terrorism launched its program to combat terrorism in the Sahel countries from the Mauritanian capital (Nouakchott).
This came in the presence of the Mauritanian Minister of Defense, Hanen Ould Sidi, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Coalition to Combat Terrorism, Major General Pilot Mohamed bin Saeed Al-Mughidi, and a large crowd of officials in the Republic of Mauritania, including the Ministers of the Interior, Justice, Islamic Affairs, Culture and Communication, in addition to the ambassadors of the member states of the Coalition and other countries. The ceremony witnessed the showing of an introductory film about the Islamic Alliance, which was established at the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and was announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in December 2015, with the aim of achieving global leadership in combating terrorism through… Organized collective action, and the number of member states in the coalition reached 42 countries until 2024.

Terrorism is a real challenge

The Mauritanian Minister of Defense explained in his speech that terrorism is a real challenge and danger to humanity, especially in the Sahel region, stressing the importance of concerted efforts to make this program launched by the Islamic Coalition to Combat Terrorism an important work.
He pointed out that the symposium, which was initiated by the coalition program in the Sahel countries, is concerned with the major role played by the media in combating terrorism, stressing that its results will contribute to strengthening the role of the media in combating terrorism, and will be of assistance in spreading a culture of peace and moderation and combating terrorism, extremism and violence in the Islamic community and in Mauritania and the Sahel region.

Strengthening the stability of the region

The Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Alliance to Combat Terrorism explained in his speech that the program represents the cornerstone of confronting terrorism and enhancing the stability of the region, and reflects the comprehensive vision of the coalition in confronting terrorism in all its dimensions, integrated with the needs of the Sahel countries, and based on 4 axes: (intellectual, media, and combating terrorism). Terrorist and military financing).
Major General Al-Mughidi stressed that the Sahel countries are a vital hub in confronting terrorism, and that the coalition’s commitment to this region reflects its belief in the importance of partnership and cooperation to achieve security and peace.
He pointed out that the programs he is launching are the beginning of a new phase of joint action, aiming to build sustainable local capabilities that enable communities to effectively confront terrorist challenges.

239 counter-terrorism activities

The ceremony witnessed an introductory film about the program, which will last for 5 years, starting in its first year in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and includes 239 activities, aiming to raise the efficiency of the agencies and departments concerned with combating terrorism, strengthening their capabilities in confronting this scourge, refuting the theses of terrorist thought, and raising awareness of its dangers.
This program comes with great support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Islamic Military Coalition to Combat Terrorism, announced during the second meeting of the defense ministers of the coalition countries held in Riyadh on February 3, 2024, support The Kingdom granted the Islamic Alliance Initiatives Fund in the amount of 100 million Saudi riyals.
In addition to providing 46 training programs within the Alliance’s work areas, as a contribution from the Kingdom with member states to implement the Alliance’s initiatives.
