Austro-Japanese partnership to preserve UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Vienna, 3 December / WAM / Two of the most important global cultural sites, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in Austria and Japan, signed a partnership agreement to preserve cultural treasures, promote the exchange of knowledge and cultural education, strengthen relations, and enhance international cooperation.
The agreement was signed in the Austrian capital, Vienna, Schönbrunn Palace in Austria, and Himeji Castle in Japan.
Klaus Banholzer, CEO of the Schönbrunn Palace Group, stressed the importance of the agreement, which obliges the relevant officials in the two countries to preserve precious cultural treasures and enhance cultural cooperation, educational work and sustainable tourism, pointing out that the partnership agreement consolidates international cooperation in protecting cultural heritage.
It is worth noting that Schönbrunn Palace was the summer residence of the Habsburg family, one of the most important royal families in Europe and the source of the emperors to rule the Austrian and Spanish empires, while Himeji Castle, known as the “White Heron Castle,” is one of the oldest well-preserved castles in Japan. It is a unique example of Japanese wooden architecture.
