Smart systems for managing abandoned vehicles in Fujairah

The Director General of Fujairah Municipality, Engineer Mohammed Saif Al-Afkham, confirmed that the municipality is working to expand the impoundment yards in the Thuban area, and activate smart systems to deal with abandoned vehicles, as part of a project aimed at preserving the civilized appearance of the emirate and enhancing public safety.

He explained to Emirates Today that the project includes advanced mechanisms that include issuing warnings to owners of neglected vehicles, giving them a grace period of up to six months to settle their situations. In the event of non-response, the vehicles are seized and put up for sale in public auctions in cooperation with Emirates Auctions.

He added that the municipality seeks to develop mechanisms for dealing with abandoned vehicles at the emirate level, in line with the latest standards, while expanding the impoundment yards to meet the growing project requirements and ensure the provision of fast and effective services.

He continued: “The Fujairah Municipality is working to equip the impoundment yards with the latest smart systems to enhance the efficiency of the impoundment operations of abandoned vehicles. This step comes within the framework of the municipality’s efforts to improve the civilized appearance of the emirate and raise the level of environmental safety by removing vehicles that threaten public safety or harm the environment.”

The Director General of Fujairah Municipality explained that the yards are managed with an integrated security system that includes a specialized team of security personnel and surveillance cameras to secure all parts of the yards, in addition to securing vehicles against fire and theft and with a smart alarm system that contributes to reducing the time period required to deal with abandoned vehicles.

He pointed out that the company responsible for managing the yards is working to achieve a high response speed, as reserved vehicles are transported within only 24 hours, with the ability to reach the site within 60 minutes. He pointed out that these measures contribute to enhancing operational efficiency and meeting the emirate’s needs through effective and quick solutions.

Al-Afkham stated that the Fujairah Municipality has achieved a qualitative leap in managing public facilities and enhancing the civilized appearance through this project, and that cooperation with specialized companies such as “Emirates Parking” and “Emirates Auctions” reflects the municipality’s vision to enhance partnership with the private sector to achieve its goals, as this project represents part It is part of a broader strategy that seeks to improve the level of public services in Fujairah, and make the emirate a role model in preserving the environment and organizing resources.
