The Minister of State for International Cooperation meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador
Abu Dhabi, 7 December / WAM / Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, met with Her Excellency Maria Gabriela Sommerfeld, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of Ecuador, during her official visit to the UAE.
The two sides stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the UAE and Ecuador in key sectors that include renewable energy, infrastructure, food and water security, mining, tourism, and investment.
During the meeting, Her Excellency Al Hashemi stressed the growing economic relations between the UAE and Ecuador, noting that despite the geographical distance between the two countries, strong trade relations have been formed, especially DP World’s investments in Ecuador.
She explained that this partnership reflects a mutual commitment to economic diversification and achieving common prosperity.
Moreover, during the visit, two important agreements were signed: a memorandum of understanding related to providing visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and official passports, and an agreement on air services. The two agreements aim to encourage tourism and enhance communication between the two peoples, in addition to consolidating cooperation in the fields of education, culture, and trade. .
The two sides also welcomed the launch of talks on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and the Republic of Ecuador.
Her Excellency Somerfeld visited Wahat Al Karama, in honor of the sacrifices of the martyrs of the UAE, and toured the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Masdar City.
Her Excellency also held meetings with a number of officials during her visit to important institutions such as the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, DP World, and the Jebel Ali Free Zone “Jafza”, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations and discussing prospects for cooperation.
Her Excellency Minister Somerfield expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the hospitality provided by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, when he received her with the delegation of the Republic of Ecuador.
