"Madinat Zayed Hospital" He succeeds in treating tuberculosis of the spine with advanced surgical techniques

ABU DHABI, 17 APRIL / WAM / Madinat Zayed Hospital, a subsidiary of SEHA within the PureHealth Group, succeeded in dealing with a complex medical case represented by thoracolumbar spinal tuberculosis in a 29-year-old patient, through an advanced, minimally invasive surgical intervention, in an achievement that embodies the level of clinical excellence achieved by the hospital in complex spine surgeries in the Al Dhafra region.

Advanced radiological examinations, including CT scan and MRI, revealed the presence of tuberculosis-related discogenic spondylitis, extending between the ninth thoracic vertebra (Th9) and the first lumbar vertebra (L1), which led to severe spinal instability, accompanied by compression of the spinal cord and a pronounced kyphotic deformity.

The neurosurgery team intervened by performing a minimally invasive posterior spinal stabilization from Th9 to L4, using radio-guided vertebral screws, in addition to performing spinal cord decompression and abscess drainage through laminectomy at the Th11, Th12, and L1 levels.

The results of the biopsy confirmed the final diagnosis of spinal tuberculosis, while the deformity was corrected using advanced techniques to reshape and stabilize the vertebral rods to restore the structural balance of the spine.

Dr. Ammar Al-Najjar, consultant neurosurgeon at Madinat Zayed Hospital, affiliated with SEHA, said that cases of spinal tuberculosis of this level of complexity are rare and require precise and rapid intervention. He pointed out that the success of this case reflects advanced integration between the specialties of neurosurgery, infectious diseases, radiology and rehabilitation, with the support of the latest imaging technologies and low-invasive surgical systems, stressing that the primary goal was to prevent any permanent nerve damage and restore functional stability to the spine.
