المملكة: Developments in Syria: great interest from the Kingdom and aspiration for the rapid return of stability
– The Kingdom hosted 3 million Syrians as “residents, not refugees.”
The Kingdom has witnessed the birth of entire generations of Syrians over the past 13 years
Al-Assad’s visits to the Kingdom took place within the framework of participation in the summits hosted by Saudi Arabia
Today, the Kingdom is following developments in the situation in Syria with great interest, looking forward to the rapid return of stability and the regularity of the Syrian state institutions with all their components.
It also aspires to preserve the security, unity and integrity of the Syrian territories, give priority to wisdom and build the national state that the Syrians have always sought.
Saudi support for the Syrian people
Since the first day of the events that Syria witnessed in the year 2011 AD, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has stood on firm principles, which were the importance of ensuring the security of Syria and the integrity of its lands away from foreign interference and external influences.
This comes from the Kingdom’s belief that Syria belongs to the Syrians, and its belief that they have the right to manage their affairs and determine their fate according to an internal dialogue that leads to an exit from the crisis in all its aspects.
Over the past years, the Kingdom has sided with the brotherly Syrian people, who have long suffered from a state of war and instability, in all its decisions and positions.
Hosting 3 million Syrians
The Kingdom hosted three million Syrians as “residents, not refugees,” and provided them with basic life requirements, such as free education and treatment, allowed them to practice work, and reintegrated them into society.
In the Kingdom, entire generations of Syrians were born during the past 13 years, and they never felt like strangers in their second homeland, which was their first homeland, in light of the chaos and instability their country is witnessing.
Syria’s return to the Arab League
It represented Syria’s return to the League of Arab States, and the Kingdom’s openness to that was consistent with a road map and promises from the Syrian side to achieve reforms, open a new page with its citizens, contain them and return them to the Syrian interior.
As well as achieving a decent life for them, as it was mainly linked to the issues of combating drugs and returning refugees, but the regime in Damascus did not make any progress in this regard.
Facilitating the affairs of Syrians residing in the Kingdom
The issue of reopening the Kingdom’s embassy in Damascus and opening the Syrian embassy in Riyadh came as a natural result of Syria’s return to its seat at the university.
The Kingdom was also keen on this in order to facilitate the affairs of Syrians residing in the Kingdom or wishing to visit the Kingdom, for the purposes of Hajj, Umrah, visiting and work.
Since Syria’s return to the League of Arab States, Bashar al-Assad has not been invited to an official visit, and the meetings that took place with the leadership – may God protect them – were within the framework of Syria’s participation in the summits hosted by Saudi Arabia.
