His Excellency Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations, also spoke at the press conference, stressing that choosing to support African youth by investing in infrastructure and building digital networks, in order to achieve digital and technological transformation expresses the UAE’s foreign aid policy.

He said that education, empowering women and youth, paying attention to technology, science and innovation, and creating partnerships in order to achieve sustainable development, in their entirety, are priority issues in foreign aid policy.
He added that choosing the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam, as the location for the launch of the new session next May, is a successful choice that is consistent with the country’s orientations towards consolidating relations with the African continent in general, and with the United Republic of Tanzania in particular.

Al Shamsi said, “During the past ten years, the UAE provided aid to the Republic of Tanzania of about 210 million dirhams, about 88% of which was allocated to support education, health, water, social services, and the transportation and storage sector.”

He added that last year 2023 witnessed many natural disasters, including earthquakes, floods, and volcanoes, in addition to conflicts and wars, which prompted the UAE to provide about 42% of its foreign aid to contribute to the global humanitarian response.
He pointed out that the UAE continued its initiatives during the current year, in the same vein of raising the value and quality of global humanitarian aid. For example, the country is the first donor of humanitarian aid in Gaza, providing a value of about 828 million US dollars so far, to support many sectors. Vital humanitarian support such as food, health, water, shelter, etc.
For her part, Mrs. Wano Hafez Amir, Chairperson of the Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation in Tanzania, expressed her sincere thanks and great gratitude to Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, for her steadfast support and great commitment to issues of charitable and humanitarian work.

She said, “You have shown the world through your charitable work that compassion knows no bounds, and you have proven time and time again that cooperation can bring about radical change. Your generous contributions of time, resources, and influence have had a profound impact on the lives of many people, and we are infinitely grateful for that.”
She pointed out that Ataya contributed over more than a decade to realizing the dreams of less fortunate and displaced women and children, by building health centers, supporting medical treatment, constructing schools, enhancing education, and alleviating financial burdens on communities.

In addition, Dr. Walid Al Ali, Secretary General of the Emirates Digital School, said that the Ataya project, under the supervision and guidance of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, has become a qualitative global initiative and an exceptional and innovative platform that reflects the importance of giving as a basic value for achieving sustainable development, especially in the fields of education, health and human services.
He added that this cooperation reflects the vision of the wise leadership, which believes in harnessing modern technology and innovation to provide qualitative and comprehensive education that reaches everyone, regardless of geographical or economic challenges.
