The Czech Republic confirms that it has obtained guarantees to cancel the German gas tax

The Czech Republic confirmed that it has obtained assurances and guarantees from Germany that it will cancel the tax on gas transportation, this week or early next January.
CTK news agency reported ; The Czech Republic quoted Czech Deputy Industry Minister Stepan Hoffman as saying that Germany’s neighboring countries, including Austria and Slovakia, are seeking to cancel the tax because it raises prices as they seek to abandon dependence on Russian gas.
He added, “Germany assured us that the government has already canceled the tax and is awaiting the approval of the Bundestag, which is expected to be issued this week. If it is not issued this week, it will likely happen in January".
Berlin imposed this tax to ensure the stability of the country’s energy system in the face of a decline in Russian gas shipments in 2022.

In a joint European Union document published this month, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia said that the scheduled expiry of the agreement to supply Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine is at the end of the year, which makes the cancellation of the German tax more urgent.
