Salem Al Qasimi witnesses the conclusion of the campaign "For the sake of our emirates, we plant"

Ras Al Khaimah, 17 December / WAM / Sheikh Engineer Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, witnessed the conclusion of the annual ceremony of the “For Our Emirates We Plant” campaign, which was organized by the Emirates Environment Working Group in Al Munai’i area in Ras Al Khaimah, with the participation of 182 companies, 62 schools and 209 families.

Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi said that the “For Our Emirates We Plant” campaign gained special importance as the country celebrated its second consecutive year of sustainability, which reflects the UAE’s permanent commitment to preserving the environment and sustainable development, praising what the Emirates Environment Working Group and all participants are doing.

He added that initiatives such as “For Our Emirates We Plant” are not limited to planting trees, but rather aim to develop a legacy of resilience and biodiversity for future generations.

For her part, Habiba Al Marashi, founding member and chair of the Emirates Environmental Working Group, stressed that trees not only provide habitats for bees, birds, insects and small animals, but will also act as natural carbon sinks, reduce emissions and promote the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

She added that this year’s campaign focused on planting Acacia tortilis trees, which are a resilient indigenous species known to thrive in arid conditions and mountainous environments, and are characterized by enriching the soil and supporting local biodiversity. The campaign addressed the crucial sustainable development goals.

She pointed out that the campaign is in line with the global commitments made during COP 28 to combat deforestation and preserve biodiversity through pioneering programs such as the Forever Tropical Forests Fund.
