It is called “Dara Al Maktoum Foundation”, and is attached to the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum..

“Dara Al Maktoum” aims to document the material and oral cultural heritage of the rulers of the Emirate of Dubai and the ruling family and preserve it for future generations, and to create a special archive for His Highness the Ruler of Dubai, his biography, possessions and literature, and to document his historical and leadership role in transforming the emirate into a modern and advanced global cultural and economic center, and to circulate And disseminating the human and cultural intellectual legacy of the emirate’s rulers through various media means, To demonstrate their leadership role in building the modern emirate and its economic, social and cultural leadership, as well as their role in establishing the United Arab Emirates, including literature, writings and publications issued by or about them..

The department also aims to build an integrated digital record for the rulers of the emirate and the Al Maktoum family, and to prepare national cadres to manage the department who are specialized in the field of archiving, managing, organizing and supervising the record, and to work as a main reference for decision makers, researchers, academics and those interested in benefiting from the path of the rulers of the emirate and their leadership, intellectual, political, social and administrative legacy..

Institution’s specializations

According to the law, the Dara is considered the official reference for the historical and cultural heritage of the rulers of the Emirate of Dubai and the Al Maktoum family, and the Foundation has the right to take all necessary measures to document and preserve this heritage and defend its interests inside and outside the country. The “Dara Al Maktoum Foundation” has a number of tasks, namely drawing up the general policies and strategic plans necessary to achieve the goals of the Dara, and following up on their implementation, in addition to collecting and documenting the oral history of the emirate and its rulers, producing documentaries and audio or visual programs, and conducting interviews with people who lived with the emirate’s rulers. And its sheikhs, and the main events associated with them, and conducting historical studies related to the biography of the rulers of the emirate and the Al Maktoum family. And its sheikhs extending throughout history, the monuments and historical events related to the emirate and its history, and appointing or contracting with experts and specialists in the field of archiving and history, according to the needs and requirements of the department..

The “Dara Al Maktoum Foundation” also specializes in coordinating with relevant local, regional and international bodies, institutions and organizations, to exchange information and experiences regarding historical documents, with the aim of spreading cultural awareness about the historical documents of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai, and books, biographies and collections related to His Highness..

The Foundation also issues books, bulletins, and references that document historical documents, and develops its cultural and media content, to disseminate the leadership experiences and humanitarian contributions of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai, by providing information to researchers and those interested, and working in coordination with the relevant authorities in the country to establish cooperation mechanisms to achieve the goals of the Department locally, regionally, and globally..

Historical documents

Historical documents include official documents and correspondence issued by the rulers of the emirate, bearing their signatures or seals, or relating to them, which document the historical facts of the Emirate of Dubai and the Al Maktoum family, and their achievements, contributions, visions and ideas in all fields..

The law obligates all individuals, governmental, non-governmental, private, and public benefit entities in the Emirate of Dubai, which own or maintain any historical documents related to the legacy of the rulers of the emirate, to register them in the digital registry of the Department, and to submit proof of their private ownership of these documents, within One year from the date of implementation of this law. Otherwise, these historical documents are considered the property of the Department, and their holders must deliver them to the Department..

The law prohibits the disposal of historical documents by any type of legal transaction, except after obtaining prior written approval from the Dara Al Maktoum Foundation, and this approval is issued in accordance with the standards, foundations, conditions and controls approved by the Foundation in this regard..
