المملكة: One death and 10 injured in a 20-vehicle collision on the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Road in Riyadh

Traffic announced that it was investigating a 20-vehicle collision today, Saturday, on Makkah Al-Mukarramah Road in Riyadh.
The accident resulted in 10 injuries and one death, while one detainee was rescued and legal measures were taken.

The top 3 causes of accidents

The General Traffic Department revealed the 3 most prominent causes of traffic accidents in the year 2023 in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, explaining that among them is the driver using a portable device in his hand while driving the vehicle.
This is in addition to not leaving enough distance between vehicles and sudden deviations. It is one of the most prominent causes of traffic accidents in the Holy Capital, Jeddah Governorate, and Taif Governorate.
It called on vehicle drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and rules and road traffic safety in all regions of the Kingdom.

Vehicle drift problems

Saudi Traffic also warned of a number of factors that may lead to the vehicle swerving suddenly while driving.
Through his account on the “X” platform, Traffic explained the importance of taking preventive measures and adhering to traffic safety rules.
He stated that the most prominent reasons that may lead to the car suddenly swerving include heavy rain and improper or insufficiently pressurized vehicle tires.

Going very fast

These include driving at a speed higher than the permissible limit, not using traffic lights when changing lanes, being distracted from driving, and not conducting a comprehensive periodic inspection of the car.
He also warned traffic of several dangers, stressing their avoidance when driving a car during rain, most notably dodging between vehicles and not leaving a safe distance. He also warned against driving at high speed, as well as driving through valleys and pools of water.
Traffic explained that sudden deviations while driving a vehicle are the main causes of traffic accidents in the northern border region, followed by the driver using a portable device in his hand and not leaving a safe distance between vehicles.
