المملكة: Jeddah Astronomy: “The spearfish” shines in the Arab sky on Wednesday evening

Head explained The Astronomical Society in Jeddah Engineer Majid Abu Zahra said that the residents of the Arab world will be able to observe the star “The vernal equinox is the end of the week, with the timing of its appearance possibly varying slightly depending on the geographical location.
He explained that this star is known for its clear brilliance and yellow-orange color, as it appears very bright when it approaches the horizon as a result of its light passing through dense layers of the Earth’s atmosphere, which leads to the phenomenon of optical vibration that gradually fades as it rises in the sky.
The brightest stars The sky
He pointed out that “The Spearfish” represents the most prominent star in the Howl constellation, and is known historically by the title “The Shepherd,” pointing out that it reaches its highest point in the sky around midnight, and remains clearly visible even before sunrise.
This star is classified as the fourth brightest star in the sky after Sirius, Suhail, and Alpha Centauri, which makes it one of the most prominent celestial bodies that can be observed with the eye. Abstract in the Northern Hemisphere throughout the year.
A traditional astronomical sign
Abu Zahira confirmed that the appearance of the spearfish in the evening sky during the middle of March is a traditional astronomical sign that is associated with the inhabitants of the Northern Hemisphere with the approaching season of spring and the beginning of the vernal equinox, after which the length of the day begins to gradually increase at the expense of the night.
He stressed at the same time that this connection is only a temporal connection, as the star does not exist. That is, a direct effect on the succession of the seasons, which is essentially linked to the movement of the Earth around the sun.
Observing the Spearfish
He added that the Spearfish, like other stars, rises about four minutes earlier every day as a result of the Earth’s rotation in its orbit, which makes it appear gradually closer to sunset during the following weeks, which makes it easier to spot in the evening and strengthens the connection of its appearance with the timing of the vernal equinox.
He concluded by emphasizing that However, the spearfish, with its striking brilliance and distinctive location, remains a natural astronomical sign that those interested can use for guidance in following the movement of the sky and determining the astronomical seasons, noting that its relationship with the spring season remains nothing more than a temporal coincidence.
