The UAE participates in the first meeting of the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers in Riyadh
RIYADH, December 23, 2017 (WAM) – The UAE, represented by the Cybersecurity Council, participated in the first meeting of the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers, which was hosted by the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and concluded today under the supervision of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
The two-day meeting reviewed ways to enhance joint Arab action in the field of cybersecurity, by discussing ways to exchange information on cyber threats, developing unified strategies, and establishing a joint Arab system to confront cyber attacks.
In his speech during the meeting, Dr. Mohammed Al Kuwaiti, Chairman of the Cybersecurity Council of the UAE Government, stressed that comprehensive cybersecurity is not an option but an inevitable necessity for a safe and sustainable digital future in the Arab region, stressing the importance of strengthening Arab cooperation to confront the increasing cyber challenges.
He pointed out the UAE’s commitment to building a safe and sustainable digital environment, noting that the meeting represents a pivotal platform for enhancing cooperation between Arab countries.
He stressed that no country can face cyber challenges alone, pointing to the need for integrated efforts to build joint capabilities, develop digital infrastructure, and protect national and Arab interests.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Kuwaiti praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s hosting of this important meeting, which reflects its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, noting that the meeting represents a unique opportunity to exchange experiences between member states and establish unified strategic foundations to confront challenges.
The meeting’s agenda covered vital topics that included developing cybersecurity strategies, building joint national capabilities, and enhancing the exchange of information about cyber threats and attacks.
The meeting constituted a major step towards establishing an Arab cyber alliance aimed at addressing the escalating digital challenges and ensuring the sustainability of technological development in the region through joint cooperation.
