The Heritage Authority announced the opening of registration for the second phase of the Babtain House programs in Yanbu Governorate to teach traditional craft arts. This phase includes training courses on the Rawashin craft and the making of the simsimiya musical instrument.
Babtain House is located in the historic Al-Sur neighborhood, south of Yanbu, and is considered one of the heritage landmarks that includes historical buildings and various popular markets. The program aims to enhance the craft skills of the trainees under the supervision of specialized trainers.

Saudi heritage

The Rawashin craft is one of the heritage industries that begins with scanning the wood and cutting it according to the desired shape, then decorating it and drawing patterns on it before assembling and installing it.
As for the semsimiyah, it is a popular musical instrument consisting of five strings that follows the pentatonic scale and includes various parts such as the firman, the hamal, the shamsia, and the sound box.
Registration is available to Saudi residents of Yanbu who are not less than 18 years old. They are required to pass a personal interview and submit craft work for evaluation. Training courses begin on the twelfth of next January.
