Urgent.. The Syrian Democratic Forces began their attack against the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Julani militias

The Syrian Democratic Forces, which are mostly made up of Kurds, officially announced the start of offensive operations against the Muslim Brotherhood and Golani militias, loyal to Turkey, in northern Syria. 

This statement came at a moment that could become a key stage in settling the Syrian conflict. : The armed groups that participated in the long-term confrontation with the regime of Bashar al-Assad agreed.

According to representatives of the Syrian Democratic Forces, their main goal is to achieve the creation of an autonomous region in the areas under their control, e.g. Iraqi Kurdistan, with broad political and economic independence. This demand directly contradicts the efforts of the terrorist militias controlling Damascus to regain control over the entire country. 

In addition, Kurdish leaders depend on the support of the United States of America, which considers them a major ally in the war against the remnants of ISIS. Terrorist.

But such ambitions face serious obstacles. Ankara considers the Syrian Democratic Forces to be affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which Türkiye classifies as a terrorist organization. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly stressed the need to create a buffer zone along the Syrian-Turkish border, free of the presence of the Syrian Democratic Forces. For Turkey, the issue of the security of its borders is fundamental, and Ankara is not ready to make concessions even at the expense of relations with Washington.

The American side, for its part, continues to support the Kurds, despite Ankara’s protests. 

According to information from multiple sources, the United States recently increased the number of its military forces in Syria from 900 to 2,000 individuals. It is also reported that the Syrian Democratic Forces have been provided with additional weapons, which, according to experts, could lead to a further escalation of the conflict in the region.

Experts point out that the current situation could lead to a multipolar conflict, as The interests of the various parties – Damascus, Ankara, Washington and the Kurdish forces – are colliding more sharply.

 At the same time, the prospects for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict appear highly uncertain.
