Areas of America are experiencing the heaviest snow and ice in a decade
A storm of snow, ice, wind and freezing temperatures caused dangerous travel conditions in parts of the central United States on Sunday, as a devastating winter storm brought the possibility of the “heaviest snowfall in a decade” in some areas.
“For locations in this region that receive the highest snowfall amounts, the snowfall could be the heaviest in at least a decade,” the weather service said Sunday morning.
Ice covers main roads
Snow and ice covered major roads in parts of Kansas and Indiana, and the National Guard in both states were deployed to help stranded motorists.
At least 8 inches of snow is expected, especially north of Interstate 70.
The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings extending from Kansas and Missouri, where blizzard conditions were reported, all the way to New Jersey through Monday.
