The inviolability of borders applies to every country

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz publicly reminded US President-elect Donald Trump of the principle of the inviolability of borders, against the backdrop of the latter’s announcement of his desire to acquire the Danish island of Greenland.

After consultations with European heads of government, Schulz said in Berlin on Wednesday that “the sanctity of borders applies to every country,” whether in the East or the West.

Trump recently refused to rule out military action to acquire the island of Greenland and the Panama Canal, and said in media statements: “I can say this: we need them for economic security,” adding: “I will not announce my commitment to that (i.e. not taking military action). Perhaps.” We have to do something.”
