A new court ruling regarding Trump in the “payment for silence” case

A judge on Friday sentenced Donald Trump to unconditional release on charges of concealing payments he made in what is known as the “payment for silence” case.
This ruling comes despite the US President-elect’s last-minute efforts to avoid becoming the first convicted felon in the White House.

Judging Trump

“This court has determined that the only provision of law that permits a guilty verdict without prejudice to the highest office in the land is unconditional release,” New York Judge Juan Merchan said as he delivered the sentence during a hearing attended by Trump remotely.
Before the ruling, Trump said his conviction was “done to smear me so I would lose the election and that obviously didn’t work… It’s a disgrace to the system.”
On Thursday, the US Supreme Court rejected President-elect Donald Trump’s request to postpone the expected ruling against him in the case.

He refused to suspend judgment on Trump

Yesterday, the highest court of appeals in New York also refused to suspend the expected ruling against US President-elect Donald Trump in the money-for-silence case.
A New York Court of Appeals judge issued a brief order refusing to grant a hearing to Trump’s legal team.
On Wednesday, Trump resorted to the Supreme Court, after the courts in New York refused to postpone the ruling by Judge Juan Merchan in Manhattan.

34 criminal charges

Last May, Merchan presided over Trump’s trial and conviction on 34 criminal charges related to falsifying business records.
This is what prosecutors described as an attempt to cover up the payment of $130,000 in hush money to an actress, while Trump denies any wrongdoing.
US President-elect, Donald Trump, appealed two rulings issued by Judge Juan Merchan, regarding the rejection of the judge’s attempts to overturn Trump’s conviction in the “hush money” case.
Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court to block the ruling in the money case filed against him in New York, known in the media as the “hush money” case.
