The launch of the Al Wathba Dates Festival activities in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 10 JANUARY / WAM / The activities of the second session of the Al Wathba Dates Festival, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, began this evening, as part of the activities of the Sheikh Zayed Festival in the Al Wathba area in Abu Dhabi, in an atmosphere that reflects the position of the palm tree in Emirati heritage.

The Dates Festival, which continues until February 28, witnesses wide participation from farmers and date producers, who compete in 12 competitions to package 6 varieties of dates, for which 120 prizes have been allocated with a total value exceeding two million dirhams.

Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Acting Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, said that the Al Wathba Dates Festival seeks to highlight the status of the palm tree and its products in Emirati society, coinciding with the date harvesting season, which is one of the Emirati traditions and a symbol of generosity and hospitality, and the values ​​of identity it represents. National and Emirati club, to continue the successful march whose foundations were established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and his approach to sustaining the heritage and agricultural sector and promoting the culture of agriculture in Emirati society.

He explained that the festival includes 40 shops selling dates and related industries, as part of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority’s keenness to support sustainable agricultural development in a way that enhances food security, uses modern methods in agriculture, and encourages local production.

The Al Wathba Dates Festival aims to support the agricultural sector, develop the date industry, enhance food security, and encourage producers and farmers to develop their production, in addition to providing an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences between them, and providing visitors with the opportunity through entertainment and educational activities to learn about the importance of palm trees in the Emirati heritage.
