The most serious environmental challenges… developments in the oil spill in the Kerch Strait

An emergency team arrived in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia on Sunday due to the continued spread of an oil leak from two tankers hit by a storm in the Kerch Strait, officials said.
This came a month after the leak was first discovered, and the emergency team was formed, which includes the Russian Minister of Emergency Situations, Alexander Korenkov, after Russian President, Vladimir Putin, yesterday, Friday, called on the authorities to increase their efforts to deal with the oil leak.

The most serious environmental challenges

Putin described it as “one of the most serious environmental challenges we have faced in recent years,” while the Emergencies Ministry indicated that it collected more than 155,000 tons of contaminated sand and soil.
This has happened since two tankers leaked oil during a storm four weeks ago in the Kerch Strait, which separates the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula from the Krasnodar region.

Oil spill developments in the Kerch Strait

Russian officials in the Ukrainian region of Zaporizhya, which is partly controlled by Russia, said on Saturday that mazut, a low-quality heavy oil product, had arrived in the coastal city of Berdyansk, about 145 kilometers (90 miles) north of the Kerch Strait.
The regional governor appointed by Moscow, Yevgeny Paletsky, explained via the Telegram application that the diesel resulted in the contamination of an area 14 and a half kilometers (9 miles) long.
