"Chess " He begins his new season tomorrow with the UAE Singles Championships

Sharjah, January 17 / WAM / The first UAE Chess Federation Championships will begin tomorrow, Saturday, with the holding of the UAE Individual Blitz Chess Championships for boys and girls under 16 years of age, and the open category and women’s category, which are organized by the Federation in cooperation with the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club.
160 male and female players representing 14 teams from various clubs in the country participate in the two tournaments.
Kholoud Al-Zarouni, Head of the Federation’s Women’s Committee, confirmed that starting the season with these two tournaments reflects a strong start to a busy sports season, as the Federation’s agenda includes 15 local tournaments.
She added that the current season is witnessing the launch of new tournaments for the first time, most notably the Elite Championship, which is an individual tournament open to all nationalities, and the Excellence Cup for juniors under 16 years of age, which also allows the participation of players of different nationalities.
She pointed to the federation’s commitment to supporting national technical and administrative cadres, by assigning tournament refereeing to distinguished young cadres, as the tournament’s arbitration committee is headed by international referee Salman Al-Taher, with the assistance of International Federation referee Majed Al-Abdouli, along with a group of distinguished local referees whom the federation is working to qualify.
