Palm pollination season begins in mid-January

The Emirates Astronomy Society announced that with the entry of the Shabot season, which is the second season of winter, accompanied by the rising of the blissful stars above the eastern horizon, the appearance of “Fahal pollen”, which is used to pollinate palm trees and is awaited by Emirati farmers in particular, and Gulf farmers in general, starting in mid-January. In the Emirates, while it appears in Oman several days early, and in Al-Ahsa and Al-Qassim in Saudi Arabia, it appears several days late.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, President of the Emirates Astronomy Society and member of the Arab Federation for Space and Astronomy, said that the wet season is considered one of the longest agricultural seasons, as it begins with the emergence of pollen, followed by the process of “sprouting,” which is the pollination of palm trees, and this usually occurs during the month of February and the beginning of March. For most of the palm varieties, the “choik” and “tahjeel” varieties, the “thinning” process occurs after about a month when the fruits are the size of a chickpea, and this occurs during March or the beginning of April..
He added that at the beginning of the month of May, the “pruning” process takes place, and before the fruits change color, the “pouching” process takes place in order to protect the fruits from birds, hot dry air, and the scorching rays of the sun..
He pointed out that with the onset of heat or summer with the rise of Al-Thuraya at the beginning of June and its end with the rise of Suhail at the end of August, the palm trees begin to give their fruits of rutab successively, according to the variety and location, and there are varieties that continue to produce until the month of October, and during the period of rutab production the dates are dried or dried. Drying it, liquefying “molasses” and other production processes.
He explained that harvesting the fruits is done according to the type of palm tree using the “Al-Kharaf” or “Saram” method, and with the month of November and the onset of autumn, the process of harvesting, pinching, cutting the fronds, cleaning the palm tree, and the process of combating it from insects or epidemics is done, and “fertilization” is done in December with the onset of cold and reduced irrigation. During the winter (December and January) and its regularity after the fruits appear.
