The Authority explained that the normal body temperature is about 37 degrees Celsius, and that a sharp decrease in it poses a threat to human life and requires immediate medical treatment, especially in the winter when these conditions increase significantly.
The most vulnerable groups
The authority explained that the groups most vulnerable to hypothermia include children, the elderly, and adults who may exhibit various symptoms.
She noted that symptoms in adults include tremors, fatigue, memory loss, difficulty speaking, rapid breathing, excessive urination, and drowsiness.
The symptoms that appear in children are redness and coldness of the skin, lethargy, and lack of general activity
The Authority stressed the importance of rapid intervention when these symptoms are noticed, explaining that first aid for a person suffering from hypothermia includes: (moving the injured person to a warm place, removing any wet clothes, increasing the body’s warmth through warm drinks, and ensuring communication with the injured person to keep him in a state of awareness, In addition to the importance of providing appropriate medical care immediately to the injured person.
The Saudi Red Crescent Authority called on all members of society to take caution during the winter and avoid exposure to extreme cold, especially the groups most vulnerable to health complications resulting from low body temperature. It stressed the importance of raising awareness about this dangerous condition and the necessity of dealing with it quickly in order to preserve public health. and safety of individuals.
