The Secretary -General of the Lebanese Council of Ministers, Judge Mahmoud Adnan Makiya, announced this afternoon, Saturday, from the Republican Palace in Baabda, the formation of a new government from 24 ministers, headed by Nawaf Salam, to succeed the government of Naguib Mikati.
Judge Mahmoud Makya read three decrees related to accepting the resignation of the Naguib Mikati government, the name of President Nawaf Salam as Prime Minister, and the formation of the new Lebanese government.
The formation of the government came less than a month after President Salam was assigned to form a new government.
The new Lebanese government includes ministers chosen according to criteria set by the designated president Nawaf Salam, represented by the prosecution of the Ministry and the selection of competencies without representation of the parties. Some political forces accused President Salam of double standards.
The Lebanese President Joseph Aoun assigned the judge to President Salam on January 13, to form a new government, after Judge Salam had 84 votes of the 128 votes of deputies in binding parliamentary consultations.
