Inter is approaching the league title after expanding the gap to 9 points over Napoli

Leader Inter overturned a two-goal deficit against host Como to a well-deserved 4-3 victory, moving away by 9 points from its direct chaser, Napoli, the defending champion, in the 32nd round of the Italian Football League.

Inter fell behind with goals from Spaniard Alex Faye (36) and Argentine Nico Bas (45), before responding before the end of the first half through Frenchman Marcus Thuram (45+1), who returned and equalized at the start of the second (49). Dutchman Denzil Dumfries added two goals in the 58th and 72nd minutes, giving the three points to his team, “Nerazzurri”.

Como added the third after he received a penalty kick due to a mistake by Frenchman Ange-Yoann Pons on Bass, which was successfully translated by the first’s compatriot Luca da Cunha (89).

The Milan City Club played the match in the absence of its captain and top scorer, Argentine Lautaro Martinez, who again fell victim to injury.

Inter raised its score in first place to 75 points, 9 points ahead of Napoli, which had previously fallen into a 1-1 draw against its host Parma. Romanian coach Christian Kefu’s men also advanced by 12 points over arch-neighbor Milan, which suffered a harsh loss to its guest Udinese 0-3 on Saturday, six rounds before the end of the season.

Inter has taken a big step towards achieving its 21st title in its history, with 3 matches awaiting it at home, and it has a great opportunity to succeed Napoli and lift the League Cup for the third time in the last five years after 2021 and 2024.

Parma provided a service to Inter by drawing with its guest, defending champion Napoli, 1-1.

The southern club started the match in the worst possible way, as it conceded a goal in the first attack, specifically just 33 seconds after the starting whistle, when Parma’s goalkeeper passed a long ball to Frenchman Nesta Elvig, who brilliantly prepared it for his Brazilian colleague, Gabriele Streveza, with a perfect header.

Despite being far from the goal, Streveza managed to bypass Napoli’s defense and hit a wonderful, curved ball past Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

Napoli needed some time to recover before completely controlling the course of the match in the second half and equalizing the score through Scot Scott McTominay (60).

Coach Antonio Conte’s team, which had achieved a series of 5 victories in a row before drawing with Parma, failed to regain the initiative and settled for a disappointing draw, which limited its hopes for a third title in the last four years.

“We should not have conceded that goal, but then I have no complaints about my team, which gave everything it could,” Conte told the Dazone streaming platform.

He added, “Has our dream of the title ended? We knew before this match that it does not depend on us, but on the results of the team that will face us. In this regard, nothing has changed.”

Parma is tied with Genoa with 36 points each, and the latter took an additional step towards ensuring survival in the first division with its dramatic victory over Sassuolo 2-1 earlier.

The two teams played with ten players in the second half after a verbal altercation between the players in the tunnel leading to the locker room.

Ghanaian substitute Caleb Ekuban scored the winner for Genoa six minutes from time in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris who saw their team move nine points clear of the relegation zone in 13th place.

The Icelandic Mikael Eilertsson, the Genoa midfielder, and Domenico Berardi of Sassuolo were expelled after a verbal altercation that broke out immediately after the whistle at the end of the first half, and the hosts were ahead with a goal from the Ukrainian Ruslan Malinovsky (18), before the Canadian Ismail Koné equalized after the break (57).

Bologna won over its guest, Lecce, with two goals scored by Swiss Remo Freuler (26) and Riccardo Orsolini (90 + 2).

Bologna raised its score to 48 points in eighth place, while Lecce’s score froze at 27 points in eighteenth place, equal to Cremonese, which is ahead of it on goal difference.

The competitions conclude on Monday with Fiorentina meeting with Lazio.
