Preventing news agency from covering two events in the White House

The White House defended its decision, last week, to prevent a correspondent from the Associated Press from covering two official events, because the news agency did not refer to the Gulf of Mexico in the name of “The Gulf of America”.
The Associated Press recommended its journalists and news institutions that depend on it by adopting the historical name of the Gulf, but recognized that the transformation approved by President Donald Trump directly affects the use of the federal government and within the United States.
“I was very explicit in my surgery, on the first day, that if we felt that there are lies promoted by media outlets in this room, we are carrying these lies.”
She added, “It is known that the water surface off the coast of Louisiana is called (the Gulf of America), and I am not sure that the news outlets are unwilling to call it this name.”
The editor -in -chief of the Associated Press, Julie Pace, wrote a letter to the chief White House employee, Suzy Wales, to object to the strongest possible terms.
In her message, Pace wrote that Levat told the Associated Press correspondent that her arrival at the Oval Office would be restricted if the news service does not immediately adopt the name of Trump’s favorite Gulf.
“The measures taken by the White House were clearly aimed at punishing the Associated Press for the content of its discourse,” Piece said, explaining that “among the basic principles of the first article of the constitution is that the government cannot take revenge on the public or the press for what they say.”
She added that «the Associated Press will strongly defend its constitutional rights, and protests against violating the public’s right to independent news coverage of their government and elected officials.
The events that the agency were prevented from covering it worthy of attention, and in the afternoon last Tuesday, Trump and his advisor, billionaire Elon Musk, spoke about the comprehensive discounts he made on the federal government as part of Musk’s efforts to improve the government’s efficiency.
On that evening, the Associated Press correspondent was prevented from attending an event with an American prisoner released by the Russian government.
The move comes at a time when the Trump administration is increasing pressure on the main news outlets, by restricting access to official places.
The Associated Press is part of a small group of journalists who attend every presidential appearance.
The agency provides news outlets and other institutions around the world with news and reports. In its instructions, the Associated Press recommends that the water surface to the east of Mexico, which extends from Texas to Florida, maintains its historical name.
Other news institutions provided support to the Associated Press, and the head of the White House Representative Association, Eugene Daniels, said: “The White House cannot dictate how news institutions convey the news, and he should not punish the working journalists because he is not happy with the decisions of their editors.”
He added: “The step taken by the administration to prevent a correspondent from the Associated Press from an open official event for news coverage is unacceptable.”
In an article last week, the New York Times said that this step is commensurate with Trump’s efforts to reformulate the government language, by removing the conditions of Biden administration programs from the agency’s directives. About NPR
