The United Nations welcomes the recent understandings between the United States, Russia and Ukraine

In a statement attributed to the deputy spokesman for the Secretary -General, Guterres also welcomed the announcement of President Trump and Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski their agreement to a partial ceasefire on the energy sector, and that technical teams would discuss the expansion of the ceasefire to include the Black Sea.
The Secretary -General of the United Nations said that these steps constitute important measures to build confidence, which would facilitate more discussions between all parties concerned with the aim of reducing the escalation of war.
He expressed his hope that these steps will pave the way for a fair, comprehensive and lasting peace that fully respects the independence, sovereignty of Ukraine, and territorial integrity.
He stressed that reaching an agreement on safe and free navigation in the Black Sea – with security obligations, and in line with United Nations Charter International Law – will constitute a decisive contribution to global food security and supply chains. He added that this will reflect the importance of trade routes from both Ukraine and the Russian Union to the global markets.
The Secretary -General confirmed his hard support for freedom of navigation in the Black Sea. He said that he continues to participate closely in the continuous implementation of the memorandum of understanding with the Russian Federation on Global Food Security.
