The Emirates and China enhances cooperation in the field of nuclear control

Abu Dhabi, March 22 / WAM / The Federal Nuclear Control Authority received at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi a high -level Chinese delegation headed by His Excellency Dong Potong, Deputy Minister of Environment, and Chairman of the National Nuclear Safety Authority in China, in the framework of the authority’s approach to strengthening partnerships with global regulatory bodies and in line with its commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in the nuclear and radiological control sector.

The Deputy Minister of Environment was received by the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Abdullah Nasser Al -Suwaidi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Nuclear Control Authority, and leaders of the authority, where the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation, exchange of experiences, research, development, capacity building in the field of nuclear safety and security, and the prohibition of nuclear proliferation, as well as the regulatory legislation of advanced nuclear technology.

This visit comes within the framework of cooperation between the National Nuclear Safety Authority of the People’s Republic of China and the Federal Authority for the Nuclear Control of the UAE, where the two sides signed in November 2024 a three -year business plan, setting the framework of joint cooperation between the two parties in the various nuclear control sectors.

In 2018, the two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding that focused on nuclear safety, prohibiting nuclear proliferation, and capacity building, among other aspects. During the visit, the Federal Nuclear Control Authority team presented a presentation on its supervisory role on the Baraka Nuclear Energy Station.

The Chinese delegation also briefed the authority on the latest developments related to its nuclear programs in the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese delegation also visited the Authority’s Emergency Operations Center, where he was briefed on the United Arab Emirates system for preparing and responding to nuclear emergencies, and its plan to ensure the safety of society and the environment.
