UAE University organizes the International Conference on Creativity and Innovation

Al Ain, November 22 / WAM / The United Arab Emirates University organized its international conference on creativity and innovation, with the participation of an elite group of experts, academics and decision-makers from various countries of the world, to discuss the future of innovation and intellectual property in light of the rapid developments of artificial intelligence.

The sessions were attended by His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the State, Supreme President of the University, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman Hassan Al-Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Sector at the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, and His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Raisi, Director of the University, along with specialized experts in the fields of technology, intellectual property and innovation.

His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Raisi, Director of the United Arab Emirates University, confirmed that the conference embodies the essence of belief in the power of the idea, and the human ability to imagine and create the future, pointing out that creativity and innovation have always been a pillar of the UAE’s journey and identity, and that the leadership was keen to enhance the culture of ambitious thinking and establish imagination as a force that drives development and a responsibility towards future generations.

His Excellency added: “The UAE University translates this vision by nurturing talent, supporting knowledge production, and building a global innovation system that contributes to finding qualitative solutions in the fields of clean energy, biotechnology, health, and artificial intelligence.”

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman Hassan Al-Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Sector at the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, referred in his speech to the UAE’s efforts to establish creativity and innovation as a major driver of national development, stressing the country’s commitment to achieving the goals of the UAE Vision 2031, by building a knowledge economy based on advanced transformative technologies.

He highlighted the continuous development of the intellectual property system through the national strategy, patent acceleration programs, support for universities and entrepreneurs, in addition to adopting artificial intelligence technologies to increase the efficiency of examination and accelerate the innovation cycle.

He touched on the importance of strengthening international cooperation with global intellectual property institutions, and the role of the education system and youth programs in preparing an innovative generation capable of leading the future, confirming that innovation constitutes an essential foundation for building a knowledge society and achieving sustainable economic growth, while intellectual property represents the guaranteeing framework for protecting this innovation and directing it towards comprehensive development.

The activities of the first day began with a keynote lecture presented by Professor Joshua Sarnoff from DePaul University in the United States, entitled “Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property, Ethical Uses, and Cost-Benefit Considerations,” followed by a session on “Creating and Employing Knowledge: Paths from Research to Influence in the Market,” with the participation of Professor Kelvin Willoughby from HHL Leipzig University in Germany, Professor Federico Munari from the University of Bologna in Italy, and Dr. Saleh Al-Sharai’a from the UAE University. The session discussed strategies for marketing university innovations. And valuing research knowledge.

In the second session, titled “Collaborative Innovation Systems: Aligning Academic Research and Industrial R&D,” representatives from Zayed University, New York University Abu Dhabi, ADNOC, and SPACE42 discussed ways to develop research partnerships between universities and industry to accelerate innovation and enhance technical sustainability.

The second day’s activities began with a keynote lecture presented by Professor Christopher L. Tucci from Imperial College London titled “Overcoming the Challenges of Artificial Intelligence,” in which he discussed approaches to balancing innovation and regulatory legislation related to smart technologies.

A discussion session entitled “Cross-border Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence in the Intellectual Property System” was held with the participation of speakers from South Korea, Japan, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Ministry of Economy and Tourism to review international experiences in using artificial intelligence in examining trademarks and patents.

The dialogue session, “Innovating Education and Inspiring Entrepreneurship,” discussed the experiences of universities from China and Ghana in developing digital entrepreneurship programs, followed by a concluding panel discussion entitled “Legal Perspectives on Creating and Transferring Knowledge,” with the participation of experts from Germany, the United Kingdom, and the UAE, with a focus on the legal and regulatory frameworks that support the protection and transfer of innovation.
