For the fourth day .. South Korea intensifies the deployment of helicopters to repel forest fires

South Korea officials said that the authorities will deploy helicopters extensively to combat fatal forest fires that swept the southeast of Sanchyong Province, for the fourth consecutive day today, Monday, with the fire spread to the neighboring “Hadong” province.
The South Korean Yonhap Agency quoted the regional government as saying that up to 36 helicopters were deployed in the two provinces in the South Jeongange region, about 250 km southeast of Seoul, starting this morning, Monday morning, to contain forest fires.
The government stated that 2341 firefighters and soldiers were deployed on the ground to prevent forest fires from extension to homes and facilities.

The Ministry of Defense announced that about 1,350 soldiers from the ground forces, the Marine and Air Force, in addition to 35 helicopters, had been mobilized to help contain forest fires and provide medical assistance.
The ministry spokesman, Jeon Ha -Qi, said in a periodic journalist briefing that the ministry ordered the leaders at the site to give priority for the safety of the widespread forces, and that the military units be given more caution when conducting fire on fire to prevent fires.
The fires in Sanchyung, which started last Friday, claimed the lives of 4 firefighters, wounded 6 people and burned 16 houses, manufacturers and 9 warehouses.

The government said that the fire then extended to the Hadong province, which resulted in the displacement of 589 people from 387 families in both provinces.
She added that the firefighters succeeded in containing 70% of forest fires in Sanchyong Province until 6 o’clock in the local time of Monday morning.
