المملكة: Diplomacy of the Crown Prince on international issues … wisdom and leadership that reflects the Kingdom’s position
Yesterday, the United States of America expressed its gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, for his wise leadership and his care for hosting bilateral talks with Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Riyadh.
The White House said in a statement: The talks once again demonstrated the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a major mediator that contributes to promoting peace and stability in the region.
This mediation, which reflects the Kingdom’s position in international diplomacy, is not the product of today, but rather came after a hard effort from His Highness the Crown Prince for years, during which he worked on a situation of Saudi diplomacy calling for peace and adherence to human rights and closer international visions.
On the eighth anniversary of His Highness the Crown Prince, we recall the most important Saudi diplomatic stations in the past 8 years.
In April 2017, the Crown Prince affirmed during his reception of the senior Yemeni tribal sheikhs that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia views Yemen as a strategic depth of the Arab nation, stressing that the aggression that targeted the Republic of Yemen was one of the biggest mistakes made against the Arabs. He also explained that the Kingdom, along with the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab and Islamic countries, is considered its duty to stand by Yemen and its support.
In May 2017, the Kingdom hosted the preliminary meeting of recovery, based on a recommendation from His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, where the Ministry of Finance was assigned to organize it as a step towards fulfilling regional and international obligations to support the process of recovery and reconstruction in Yemen in the short and medium term. The meeting stressed the importance of international efforts in providing assistance to ensure a decent life for the Yemeni people.
In November 2019, in the presence of the Saudi Crown Prince and Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed, the Riyadh agreement was signed between the government of Yemen and the Southern Transitional Council, which strengthened efforts to achieve stability in Yemen.
In April 2022, the Crown Prince made a phone call to the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, during which regional and international conditions were reviewed, as Guterres expressed his gratitude for the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve the truce between the parties to the Yemeni crisis, and its continuous support to reach a comprehensive political solution.
The Crown Prince in the Royal Court at Al Salam Palace in Jeddah also met in September 2022, the Middle East and North Africa Affairs Coordinator at the US National Security Council Brett McGurk, and the chief adviser to global energy security affairs Amos Hockestin, and the American Special Envoy to Yemen Tim Linding, where the meeting discussed developments in the Yemeni crisis and other regional developments.
In April 2022, the Crown Prince, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Command Council, received Dr. Rashad Al -Alimi and members of the Council, as he expressed the Kingdom’s support for the council and its aspiration to its founding to the start of a new stage in Yemen, transferring it from the war to peace and development.
International mediation
The efforts of the successful crown prince in international issues in the joint Saudi -Emirati mediation on December 9, 202, which resulted in the exchange of prisoners between the United States of America and Russia, confirmed the influential role of the Saudi Crown Prince and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed in solving files of a human nature.

In March 2023, the Crown Prince held a meeting with the President of the Yemeni Presidential Command Council, Rashad Al -Alimi and members of the Council in the Royal Court in the Yamama Palace, where the latest developments in the Yemeni situation were reviewed, and to emphasize the continuation of the Kingdom’s support for the council and the Yemeni government, and the efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution under the auspices of the United Nations.
The Russian -Ukrainian crisis
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced its clear position on the Russian -Ukrainian crisis, based on international law, as it affirmed its support for efforts to resolve the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. Under the supervision of the Crown Prince, the Kingdom was keen to dedicate the humanitarian side, and humanitarian aid provided Ukraine worth $ 400 million, which included food and medical items, in addition to providing a grant of petroleum derivatives.

On September 21, 2022, the Crown Prince’s mediation succeeded in release ten citizens of Morocco, the United States, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Croatia, as part of a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine. This mediation was widely praised, as the United States and Britain expressed their thanks to Prince Muhammad bin Salman for his successful efforts.
In September 2022, the Crown Prince contacted Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Putin thanked him for his active contribution to the success of the prisoner exchange. Putin also made another call in March 2022, during which the Crown Prince confirmed the Kingdom’s supportive position to a political solution to the crisis.
In a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zellinski, the Ukrainian crisis was discussed, as the Crown Prince affirmed the Kingdom’s support for international efforts to reach a political solution, and the Kingdom announced the extension of the visas of visitors, tourists and Ukrainian residents in the Kingdom.
In September 2022, the Crown Prince received at the Peace Palace in Jeddah, the advisor and special envoy of Ukrainian President Rustam Omeriev, as the latter expressed his country’s appreciation for the humanitarian efforts made by the Kingdom, and the Crown Prince affirmed the Kingdom’s support for all international efforts to resolve the crisis.

The latest mediation efforts
On February 18, 2025, the Kingdom, under the direction of the Crown Prince, hosted the talks between Russia and the United States in the capital, Riyadh, which resulted in the end of the dispute between the two countries.
On February 20, 2025, the Crown Prince received a phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the latter expressed his thanks for the Kingdom’s hosting of the fruitful talks, praising the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries.
On March 11, 2025, the Kingdom hosted in Jeddah talks between the United States and Ukraine, where Ukraine agreed during the meeting to a 30 -day ceasefire, provided that Russia is committed to that.
