“International Astronomy” shows the reason for the large size of the crescent of Shawwal yesterday

The director of the International Astronomy Center, Eng. Muhammad Odeh Shawkat, attributed the large size of the crescent after sunset on Sunday, March 30, 2025, that if the Hijri month begins a correct start dependent on the vision of the crescent and then completed 30 days, the size of the crescent is large after the sunset of the thirtieth day, because the moon moves away from the sun every day in a large amount of 13 degrees as an average, and this large movement makes the size of the crescent increase significantly in only one day.
Odeh explained that the lesson of the health of the month is not always linked to the form of the crescent, but the lesson is to watch the crescent on the evening of the twenty -ninth of AH.
He said: “To demonstrate this with an example of the current month of Shawwal, the moon’s sunset was ten minutes after the sunset from the center of the Arab world, and therefore the majority of Islamic countries announced that the crescent’s vision was not proven, and that Sunday is the complement, and since the date of the moon’s sunset is 50 minutes late every day, this means that the moon on Sunday is absent after the sunset of more than an hour, and it appears in a large way, and that does not mean the beginning of the month. Correct, the crescent does not appear small after sunset the thirtieth day or after sunset the first day of the new Hijri month.
Odeh added: “On Sunday, March 30, the moon missed 74 minutes after the sunset for Riyadh, and after 82 minutes in Amman, and after 81 minutes in Cairo, and after 93 minutes in Rabat, but after sunset today, Monday, which is the first day of the month of Shawwal in the majority of Islamic countries, the crescent will be very large and will stay more than two hours after sunset, and this is very natural through the sequence of previous numbers.”
He continued: “It should be noted that after the sunset of the first day of the Hijri month, we have entered the second night of the Hijri month, and therefore the crescent that we see is the crescent of the second night and not the first, and the size of the crescent must be large at the time and commensurate with the crescent of the second night.”
