France and Britain confirm that the trade war does not serve the interests of anyone

British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed on Saturday that “no one will serve the interests of anyone”, after the United States imposed high customs duties.
Starmer’s office said that the two leaders spoke, “they agreed that the trade war does not serve anyone’s interests, but nothing should be excluded.”

He stressed the need to coordinate between the European Union and Britain in the face of US President Donald Trump and the necessity of “unity”.
“While the global economy suffers from the shock of the customs recognition imposed by the United States, we reaffirmed our willingness to coordinate our positions closely in the ongoing discussions with President Donald Trump,” Macron said on the X platform.

He added, “We must be united and designed together to protect our citizens and our actions,” a call that was paid on Thursday to the 27 members of the European Union.

American tariffs

More than four years after Brexit entered the implementation of Britain’s actual exit from the European Union, the United Kingdom escaped part of the American tariffs that affected the bloc, and it relies on reaching an agreement with Washington that gives it a greater preference.
European Commission Chairman, Ursula von der Layen, stressed that “the time has not yet been missed to confront fears through negotiations,” noting at the same time that the Europeans are “ready to respond.”
