From oil to green hydrogen .. Saudi Arabia reformulates the global energy rules

The specialists added that Saudi Arabia is seeking to achieve economic and environmental sustainability within an ambitious vision that establishes its position as a global pioneer in the future industry, from green hydrogen to artificial intelligence.
Fixed steps
D. Abdul Rahman Al -Qasim, the co -energy professor and a researcher in energy affairs, that Saudi Arabia is taking steady steps towards achieving the transformation in the energy sector, in line with the “Vision 2030”.
He added that the Saudi strategy is based on the words of His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in which he stressed the necessity of achieving economic diversity through the barrel of oil, the barrel of petrochemicals, the barrel of public investments, and a mixture of other economic options.
Al -Qasim indicated that over the contracts, Saudi Arabia was one of the largest producers and exporters of oil, which made it a major player in the global energy market.
He explained that today, this role expands to include the largest image of energy with its multiple sources and its various techniques.
Global center
He pointed out that in light of the continuous activity in hosting forums and conferences and making strategies that help to achieve sustainable development goals, Saudi Arabia has become a major global center to discuss energy issues, technologies and strategies, in line with its global position in leading the oil market, and expanding this role to include the leadership of the global energy scene in proportion to the data of different countries.
Al -Qasim added that Saudi Arabia has worked with international partners to define different methodologies that help all parties to choose what suits the nature of their countries, their needs and aspirations, so that the scene moves from one strategy that may not agree with the nature of many countries – especially developing – to a diversity in the strategic option is more appropriate to success through the adoption of international partners because of these options.
Al -Qasim pointed out that Saudi Arabia has always been the voice of wisdom in the global energy markets, and today provides logical and wise strategies that help benefit from modern technologies and sustainable energy sources along with traditional sources, which are realisticly difficult to dispense with.
He explained that many developing countries are still in urgent need of sources that produce energy with high intensity to complete the infrastructure, similar to what developed countries have done during the past decades, when there was no clear focus on environmental needs and their budgets as much as the focus on achieving the desired goals by providing focused energy sources.
Development of the energy system
In the context of local efforts, Al -Qasim said that Saudi Arabia has developed the energy system and its targets in proportion to the energy pyramid, which begins to maintain it by urging consumers to change their use patterns in a way that contributes to reducing waste, through raising energy efficiency in use at all levels, starting from electric power plants to home loads.
He pointed out that Saudi Arabia has expanded in diversifying energy sources and introducing renewable energy technologies into the electrical network mixture.
He added that to raise energy efficiency in the building sector, which consumes approximately 30% of the initial energy used, Saudi Arabia has worked to update the Saudi construction code, which includes technical standards concerned with energy efficiency in the industrial, commercial and residential buildings.
He stated that one of the most prominent of these efforts is: compulsory thermal insulation of buildings, urging the use of high efficiency electrical devices, and encouraging solar energy to generate electricity. The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center also launched an initiative to support the replacement of highly efficient air conditioners through material support provided to the consumer for each device that is purchased.
Renewable energy
D. Hassan Al -Qarni, the co -energy professor, is in the field of renewable energy, Saudi Arabia is working in an accelerated pace to achieve a target of 50% of the production capacity from renewable energy sources.
He added that Saudi Arabia created a framework that helped reduce the cost of electricity production and achieve global records, and introduced the private sector into the system of implementing these projects, through alliances that guarantee the ability of competitors to achieve the targets of these giant projects.
He pointed out that this resulted in the completion of solar energy projects, such as: Sakaka, Al -Shuaiba, and Sadir, with the capabilities of the production of 400, 600 and 1500 megawatts, respectively, and wind energy projects, such as: Dumat Al -Jandal, and the Red Sea with the production capabilities of 400 and 1200 megawatts, in addition to many projects that are being implemented.
Carbon circular economy
He pointed out that in the field of dealing with carbon, Saudi Arabia adopts a carbon’s circular economy to manage emissions and find technical solutions that help benefit from it.
He stated that this is the focus on reaching the zero neutrality, which Saudi Arabia targets by 2060.
He noted, this comes in these efforts that exist on the ground -based solutions, as Saudi Arabia launched two important initiatives, “Saudi Green” and “the Green Middle East Initiative”, in which the Kingdom aims to increase the vegetation by planting 10 billion trees during the coming decades, which contributes to carbon detention, improving the quality of life and protecting the environment.
Technical innovation
He pointed out that, given the field of technical innovation, we find that Saudi Arabia is generously investing in scientific research and innovation. In the year 2024 AD, the Research and Innovation Development Authority was established, which set four main goals, two of which were in the sustainable environment, basic needs, energy and industry.
He said that the authority launched programs to support researchers, innovators and startups to motivate them to develop their research and innovations in those areas.
Green hydrogen
He added: “Saudi Arabia has invested in green hydrogen through the NEOM project, which uses renewable energy, such as: solar energy and wind energy to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis.”
He continued: “The Kingdom aims from this project to become the largest producer and source of clean hydrogen in the world.”
Al -Qarni said: One of the most prominent energy projects in Saudi Arabia is the electrical connection project for neighboring countries, including the linking with the Arab Gulf states, the states of Iraq and Egypt.

D. Hassan Al -Qarni
He added that the linking projects aim to enhance the reliability of energy supplies, reduce the reserves required for each country, and benefit from the surplus of energy production from renewable sources, in addition to reducing electricity production. This link will greatly contribute to the export of energy to other countries in the region, and to the future European countries.
He pointed out that on the other hand, Saudi Arabia is working with partners around the world in various fields, including: oil and gas, carbon initiatives, clean energy, and partnerships in the field of renewable energy and hydrogen.
Global partnerships
He pointed out that one of the most prominent global partnerships – with Saudi Arabia – in the energy field of what Saudi Aramco has revealed to explore opportunities to cooperate with European and Asian companies, not only to supply oil and petrochemicals, but also to include cooperation in technologies related to hydrogen, renewable energy technologies and carbon detention and storage.
He added that Aqua Power – which is a leading Saudi company in the field of renewable energy – is working in 13 countries to invest and operate power and development stations, water desalination, and green hydrogen production.
D. Hassan Al -Qarni: These policies, initiatives and programs confirm that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is moving at a steady pace and balanced policies towards achieving the continuation and expansion of global leadership in the field of energy, taking advantage of its traditional resources such as oil and gas, and expanded in its adoption of renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy, and green hydrogen, according to its ambitious vision 2030.
He added that Saudi Arabia was concerned with environmental sustainability in raising the efficiency of energy consumption and activating carbon management technologies, according to the approach of the circular economy.
He pointed out that Saudi Arabia did not stop at its internal efforts, but rather strengthened its global partnerships, whether in the field of oil and gas, or in the field of renewable energy and innovation, in order to enhance its pioneering position in the energy sector.
He explained that through these efforts, Saudi Arabia continues its pivotal role in leading the future of global energy, reinforcing an ambitious, clear vision and introduction to a practical model aimed at building a varied and sustainable future.
