المملكة: Saudi Road Code determines the standards for determining the design speeds of the roads

The General Roads Authority explained that the Saudi road code adopted criteria for determining the design speeds that the roads are designed to bear, with the aim of enhancing traffic safety.
These standards are part of continuous efforts to improve the quality of life and achieve the highest levels of efficiency in the Kingdom’s road network.
The “Roads Authority” emphasized that the road code identifies the design speeds based on factors that include the type of road, as the speed varies between high -end, regional and local roads; And terrain, as the speed is affected by the plains, hills and mountains; And the size of the movement, where the speed decreases with the increased density of movement and the diversity of vehicles; And the surrounding environment, such as intersections and pedestrian crossings; And engineering elements, such as curves and slopes.

The Saudi Road Code is a comprehensive technical reference for all the roads responsible for the roads in the Kingdom, including ministries, city development bodies, regional secretariats, cities, governorates, etc., with the aim of enabling these bodies to access the information necessary for planning, design, implementation, operation and maintenance of roads of all kinds in the Kingdom, taking into account the environmental aspects and the requirements of self -driving vehicles, in addition to guidance, graphics, procedures and lists Auditing for all road networks in the Kingdom, to achieve the acceptable minimum levels of quality, safety, safety, economic efficiency and sustainability.
It is noteworthy that the General Authority of Roads was entrusted with the tasks of supervising and organizing bandits, by setting the necessary policies and legislation, including the launch of the Saudi road code.
This code began to be guided until the end of last year, while it was done and approved on all government agencies at the beginning of this year, to be done on the private authorities in the middle of this year.
This comes within the framework of achieving the targets of the road sector strategy that focuses on safety, quality and traffic intensity, and aims to reach the sixth rank globally in road quality by 2030.
