High inflation expectations in the euro area

A survey of the European Central Bank showed yesterday that consumers in the eurozone raised their expectations for inflation in the coming years, during March, before the United States imposed customs duties on most countries, which sparked a global trade war that may undermine economic growth.

According to a survey in which 19,000 consumers participated in 11 countries in the euro area, the bank stated that the inflation rate is expected, during the next 12 months, 2.9%, up from 2.6% in the previous month poll.

The European Central Bank data also showed that the inflation rate for the next three years increased to 2.5% from 2.4%.
