Mohammed Al -Shehhi: The UAE adopts clear criteria for making a responsible digital content

Kuwait, May 12/ WAM/ His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al -Shehhi, Secretary -General of the Emirates Media Council, stressed that the UAE adopts clear criteria for making a responsible digital content that establishes the national identity and maintains moral and social values, in parallel with openness to modern digital tools.
His Excellency said in statements to the Emirates News Agency “WAM” on the sidelines of the state’s participation as a guest of honor in the Arab Media Forum in the State of Kuwait, that the state’s choice of this role reflects its pioneering position as a regional and global center for the media, and embodies the fruits of the strategic approach adopted by the media system in the state, which focuses on the development of an integrated media sector that combines legislation, empowerment, investment and innovation, and this approach has contributed to building a form. A modern work that supports local content, and attracts media talents from all over the world, which enhances the state’s attractiveness as an advanced media axis in the region and the world.
He pointed out that media policies and organizational legislation in the UAE constitute the cornerstone of building an advanced media scene capable of keeping pace with the rapid transformations in the media sector, and enhancing its competitiveness regionally and globally, explaining that the Emirates Media Council launched an integrated legislative map that began with the issuance of the media regulating law and its executive regulations, provided that a set of policies and organizational decisions followed during the coming period.
He explained that these steps reflect the state’s commitment to creating a responsible media environment, which is in line with the best global practices, while preserving the national identity and societal values, noting that the new media legislative system represents a proactive step to support the media economy and stimulate local and international investments in the sector, within a flexible and stimulating organizational environment that contributes to enhancing the media contribution to the national economy.
He pointed to the pivotal role played by the Emirates Media Council in refining and empowering national competencies, especially in light of the rapid technological transformations in the media scene, stressing that the Council launched training programs and specialized workshops targeting content and media makers.
He pointed to the launch of the “Media” program in cooperation with the Council of Competitiveness of the Emirati cadres, within the “Nafs” program, with the aim of preparing a new generation of Emirati experts who are able to keep pace with the rapid developments in the media industry, and contribute to building a diverse and sustainable media economy, and the program targets new media graduates and students of the last year in specialization, as well as professionals wishing to develop their media skills.
Al -Shehhi stressed that this trend reflects the UAE’s faith in the role of youth as leaders for the future of the media, pointing to the importance of enhancing their capabilities to use modern media tools, such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and other advanced technologies.
He explained that the Emirates Media Council set an integrated system of media content, including the quality of the content, the commitment to values, respect for the rights of individuals and age classification, to serve as an organizational compass that directs what is published through the media and digital platforms.
He said that these criteria aim to ensure the consistency of media messages with national policies, and to achieve a balance between freedom of expression and protect society from harmful practices, such as hate speech and misleading information, as it contributes to controlling the quality of content in all its forms, in a way that enhances the confidence of the public and gives media institutions and publishers a clear framework for preparing and publishing content.
Al -Shehhi added that the UAE’s participation in the forum confirms its commitment to expanding the scope of the discussion on the future of the media, enhancing cooperation with specialized media institutions, linking national policies to regional and international media movement, and strengthening the state’s presence in the forums that formulate the media agenda in the region.
