His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, received a special honor from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization “UNESCO”, on the occasion of the completion of the historical lexicon of the Arabic language, and the official list of the lexicon in the UNESCO Library.

This came during an official ceremony held at the UNESCO headquarters in the French capital, Paris, under the slogan “The Arabic Language: A Bridge between Heritage and Knowledge”, in the presence of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and Sheikha Badour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Book Authority.

Pioneer scientific and cultural achievement
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah delivered a speech during the ceremony, in which he said: It is honored to stand among you today in this high cultural place, in UNESCO, which is the most beautiful message, and we cherish its fruitful partnership, to celebrate together with a pioneering scientific and cultural achievement, which is the historical lexicon of the Arabic language, and what increases this moment symbolic and deep, that it coincides with the International Day of the Cultural Dialogue of Dialogue and Development, This day, which was approved by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, to be an annual occasion to enhance understanding and mutual respect between cultures, and consolidate human rapprochement.

His Highness stressed that the language is the first container of culture, saying: There is no doubt that the language is any language that was considered the first container of culture, and the most sincere expressive of the identity of peoples, and when we celebrate today the historical dictionary of the Arabic language, we honor this celebration is an element of this great human diversity, which the Arabic language represents with all its civilizational weight and scientific and human radiation.

On the importance of the dictionary in the history of the development of the vocabulary of the Arabic language, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah said: For centuries, the Arabic language has remained a lively living language, carried the heritage of a nation, and embraced unlawful sciences and knowledge, it is the tongue of the Holy Qur’an, the tool of expression among philosophers and scholars, and the means of creating poets and thinkers, and it is to this day the performance of its message in all of that It lacks a scientific project that chronicles the development of its vocabulary and connotations throughout the ages as it is in other languages, and from here came the historical lexicon of the Arabic language a dream that turned into a project, and a project that has become an achievement, thanks to the concerted efforts, the integration of experiences, and a will that does not know the decline.

His Highness explained the role of the parties participating in the completion of the historical dictionary, saying: Sharjah supervised through the Arabic language complex in it, and in partnership with the Union of Scientific and Linguistic Councils in Cairo, and the councils, institutes and linguistic institutions in the Arab world, on the completion of this dictionary, which came in a hundred and twenty seven volumes, as you see it printed before you and the lexicon is available in its paper and electronic form, Fathi to hundreds of researchers and auditors from different Arab countries for their great efforts that were the cause of this achievement.

The entitlement of languages ​​in existence and development
His Highness affirmed the right of languages ​​in existence and development and not to reduce it in one language, adding that when we restore the Arabic language its history, and highlight the features of its development, at the same time we assure the world that every language has a right in existence, development and celebration, and that cultural justice requires not to reduce humanity in one language, and the civilizations of peoples do not summarize in one model, just as the environmental diversity is a guarantee of the continuation of life Cultural and linguistic is the guarantee of the continuation and renewal of human creativity.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to UNESCO for its celebration of the historical lexicon of the Arabic language, and the joint cultural projects between Sharjah and the organization, saying His Highness: Our celebration of this work in the UNESCO Rehab is a clear message that culture does not know the borders, and that the Arab effort when it is achieved with sincerity and in a collective spirit that is accomplished by the global embrace and embrace The platform expresses my deep gratitude to the UNESCO, and its member states of their deep faith in the value of the Arabic language, and their constructive partnership with us in many initiatives, and in the forefront the Sharjah Prize – UNESCO for Arab Culture, in which we see a symbol of cultural convergence between us in Sharjah, and between this international organization in all its member states.

His Highness concluded his speech, let us continue together, friends, to put our hands with some hands, and to strengthen the cultural dialogue between us, and to work to preserve the common humanitarian legacy, and to work together that the voice of each culture is heard and every respectable language, and every people adhering to its identity and its authentic culture.

UNESCO welcome
Audrey Azoulay, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization “UNESCO”, delivered a speech in which she welcomed His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and expressed her happiness with the visit of the delegation of the Emirate of Sharjah, the global capital of knowledge and culture, which invested and entered into multiple fields in the heart of the UNESCO powers, and obtained international cultural titles and confessions, including the choice of UNESCO for Sharjah as the capital International Book in 2019, which comes as an affirmation of Sharjah’s commitment to the book, cultural heritage, knowledge, cultural pluralism, and others.

Azoulay praised the vision of Sharjah, led by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, which made all its policies based on culture and knowledge and organized various events, festivals and rich exhibitions that include various areas of culture, arts and history, noting that these cultural initiatives and events, including the Sharjah – UNESCO Award for Arab Culture, support the dialogue between cultures and embody the established relationship between Sharjah And UNESCO for more than 25 years.

The Director General of UNESCO, the Sharjah Initiative, valued the signing of the UNESCO Archive Agreement, which constitutes great support to preserve the great legacy of books, documents, etc., which dates back more than 80 years of the great history of the organization, which witnessed many events, positions, agreements and initiatives.

Azoulay also expressed her pride in the completion of the historical lexicon of the Arabic language, which was achieved with the follow -up and supervision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and hundreds of researchers and auditors worked on it and 20 linguistic institutions in the Arab world, and obtained the Guinness Book Encyclopedia certificate as the largest historical dictionary with 127 volumes, and was officially added to the UNESCO Library, to provide teachers, researchers, students and everyone who wants to learn Arabic.

The Director General of UNESCO explained that the Arabic language is rich and valuable in its content, scholars and writers in various fields, and it is a language that adapts to the ages and develops and is spoken by millions around the world, pointing out that it stands on the word peace with the triple root Sen Lam Mim in the historical lexicon of the Arabic language, which is similar in its meaning to all languages.
